Working in Singapore as a foreigner: Obtaining the right work pass for you

WHAT IS IT?: 


All foreigners who intend to work in Singapore must have a valid work pass, most commonly known as a work visa. These passes are issued and regulated by the Ministry of Manpower.


We’ve narrowed it down to these 3 work passes suitable for Skilled Workers and/or Professionals.



S Pass


Allows mid-level skilled staff to work in Singapore. 


Employment Pass


Allows foreign professionals, managers and executives to work in Singapore. Employers must also demonstrate that they have fairly considered all jobseekers.


Personalised Employment Pass


For high-earning Employment Pass holders and overseas foreign professionals. It is not tied to an employer and offers greater flexibility than an Employment Pass.


THE BREAKDOWN

S Pass Employment Pass Personalised Employment Pass
Eligibility Criteria Have a degree or diploma. Technical certificates, such as courses for qualified technicians or specialists may be considered. The certification should require at least 1 year of full-time study. Have relevant work experience. Have a job offer in Singapore. Work in a managerial, executive or specialised job. An overseas foreign professional with a last drawn fixed monthly salary overseas of at least S$18,000 within the last 6 months; OR An existing Employment Pass holder earning a fixed monthly salary of at least S$12,000.
Minimum Salary Fixed monthly salary of at least S$2,500 Fixed monthly salary of at least S$4,500 (S$5,000 for the Financial Services Sector)
Pass Duration Up to 2 years First-time candidates: Up to 2 years Renewals: Up to 3 years Up to 3 years
Is it renewable? Yes Yes No. The PEP is issued only once. To continue working in Singapore, you will need to get an Employment Pass or S Pass.
